METAKER® Surface is a process for the electrochemical- chemical modification of light metal surfaces during the dipping process. Under influence of a million micro-arcs, the micro-contracture of a workpiece in the surface layer area is transformed into a multifunctional, micro-constructed and activated gradient material. The transformation process is complex and consists of a dynamic symbiosis of several single processes such as:
The resulting gradient material is a complex, heterogeneous, multifunctional mixed material of micro/nano-phases of various modifications of oxides, hydroxides, salts and optionally other materials, whose composition, structure and properties can be customized in any specific area.
For example, an application-specific, tribological surface consists of a “hill chain“ with a very large proportion of material (green marking in the picture below), intervening “valleys“ (yellow marking) and homogeneously distributed “caves“ or pores with a complex spatial structure (red marking). The micro hardness is in the range of 334 HV to 1169 HV.

The chemical, mechanical, and topological features of the surface can be tuned specifically for different applications in particular settings, and unlike other surface technologies, have many benefits in different functions.

Alloys of light metals such as aluminum, titanium, magnesium etc. can be treated. Currently we offer applications exclusively for aluminum alloys. The development of application for magnesium and titanium is also possible on request.
METAKER® Surface Technology is system-independent and can be adapted to any system technology from the wet chemical sector.
